Pointe Claire lies in that sleepy part of Montreal's West Island. The people who aren't familiar with this term frequently think that it's a isolated island to the west of Montreal however, in reality it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to be from the West Island, but her stay was short. Brugel lived in Courtice in the city of Oshawa, Ontario. The first goal she had was to become an experienced dancer. However, a growth in her body meant that she was outgrowing her dance partner. She acknowledged in a piece that was published in The Toronto Star that she was 6'1" tall while wearing heels. Once I outgrew the male partners that I worked with, I decided to quit. The majority of dancers who have been ex-dancers now turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was an nudge from an instructor in drama at high school who pushed her in the proper direction. The teacher was the one who recommended her to audition in the role of Anne in the school's annual production. The teacher advised her to audition for a character in the annual school production. She ended up being cast as Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the twenty years since, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows in both the small and the large screens, drawing the most interest when she was offered the role of Rita on the award-winning TV series, The Handmaid's Tale
